Coffee Camera

Artist Reflection

The strongest technical aspect of my image form the coffee camera is that it has black points and also white points. The technical aspect of my work which could be improved on is the placement of me in the photo, I'm in the corner of the frame and it would've been nice if I was more towards in center.

The easy part of the coffee camera was making the camera and making sure no light leaked in by using a test strip and placing inside the camera inside the darkroom and then taking it outside in the classroom without opening the shutter and seeing if any light may have leaked in. The difficult part was trying to figure out how much time we should let the light in to get blacks ands whites in the photo.

I demonstrated the objective of this activity by making a pinhole camera that light doesn't leak in, and also by creating a test strip for 30sec outside seeing if we had the amount of time correct and then once I did I put a larger piece of paper inside the camera and placed it on the stool outs one agin for 30 sec I also sat on another stool against the brick wall as a subject in the photo. If I were to do this art activity again I would try to center myself in the frame more.

Photos

Artist Reflection

The strongest technical aspect of my work is the sharpness and contrast of my photos. The technical aspect off my work which could be improved on would be lining up the photo paper in the easel so the border of the photo would be straighter.

The easy part of creating the photos was actually taking them, I find it relatively easy to load up some film into a camera and just go out and take some photos. The difficult part of creating the photos was trying to find an aperture and amount of light along with filter that would give me the closet result to having some blacks and some whites in the photos while also being contrasty.

I demonstrated the objective of this art activity by taking photos, film developing process and the darkroom process. When I do this process again I hope to shoot some more landscapes/ cityscapes rather than just trying to photograph what I can find in a small vicinity of where I am.

Darkroom projects

Artist Reflection

The strongest technical aspect of these projects is creating multiple values throughout an image with whites points and black points with gray shades in-between. The aspect of my work that could be improved on is working on the placement of the paper under the easel so the border of the images is cleaner looking.

The easy part of these projects was running there images through the chemicals since it was the same every time for any project. The difficult part was trying to get white and black points in the projects by adjusting the time on the enlarger and the f-stop.

I demonstrated the objective of these projects by creating a test strip with values that change from white to black and I also created a landscape photogram, a symmetrical photogram and also a magazine photogram. If I could do these activates again I would try ti improve on creating darker blacks and whiter whites but also work on fearing the paper under the easel so I get clean white borders around the images.

Poloroid

Artist Reflection

The strongest technical aspect of my work is is the combination of polaroids working together to surround the mother and daughter while having the girls arms reach out of the edge of the polaroid. The technical aspect of my work that could be improved on is the stacking of the Polaroid's to make them appear as if they are more scattered.

The easy part of this art art activity was finding an image to use since I just quickly browsed through my photos and immediately knew I wanted to work with this photo and the other easy part was stacking and erasing the polaroids around the people. The difficult part was creating a layer mask on the image of the mother and daughter to change the background to the purple that it is now.

I demonstrated the objective of this art activity by creating a photo that makes it look like a bunch ion polaroids were thrown onto a table and all worked together to create an image. I also made it appear as if there was something sticking out of the polaroids and also changed the background creating symbols which represent the original image. If I were to do this project again I would try to incorporate the polaroids more so it looks like the mother/daughter for example would actually be on the polaroids and also try to scatter them some more.

Portrait Retouch

Artist Reflection

The strongest technical aspect of my work is the removal of the freckles using the spot removal tool and partially using paint brushes. The technical aspect of my work which could be improved on is smoothing out the face but still retain detail/ texture so it doesn't appear totally fake but rather can still be perceived as realistic.

The easy part of this art activity was changing the hair color and removing the red tone of the overall image. The difficult part was actually removing all the freckles which was nearly impossible because it was like legitimately her whole face.

I demonstrated the objective of this project by using the paint brush and patch removal tool along with a gaussian blur to remove and clear up her skin. If I could do this art activity again I would probably choose somebody with maybe blemishes rather than freckles or at least somebody with less freckles that didn't blur out towards the edge of the face due to a shallow depth of field because this made it relatively difficult to make those parts look like smooth even skin.
